It doesn't matter what you pay your records on - a BSR/MacDonald that you purchased from the money you saved during your eight month fast in protest of the Vietnam War, a combination of record player-transistor radio-flashlight-can opener-beach model that your grandmother purchaser with trading stamps because the manager of the redemption store told her they were "in", and which she gave you a gift when you received your Masters Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, or a steady hand, an acute sense of hearing, and a very sharp straight pin, Rick Springfield's BEGINNINGS is a welcome addition to your record collection.Springfield, who writes all his own lyrics and music, is extremely versatile in his style. Some of his cuts are light country/western, others are solid rock and roll, and still others, thanks to a helping hand from Del Newman, are master-pieces of orchestration. The lyrics are poignant, down to earth, and contain some points well worth pondering. Cuts worth nothing: "Mother Can You Carry Me?", "What Would the Children Think?", and "Hooky Joe," The album is a real success.
